About LIGHTS CAMERA CURE
Cancer is the #1 disease-related cause of death of children in the U.S. and LIGHTS CAMERA CURE is calling ACTION! to fight pediatric cancer. Lights Camera Cure is a Los-Angeles based charitable organization whose mission is to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer patient support and research. The organization’s primary fundraising event is the annual Hollywood Dance Marathon held in the Spring at the Avalon Hollywood, the site of the 2015 Industry Dance Awards.
You’re Invited to Dance for a Cure
We’re very honored to be part of the annual celebration of dance at the Industry Dance Awards. Dancing lifts the spirit and fills the soul, and dancing with friends to raise money to help kids with cancer can be even more uplifting. Lights Camera Cure invites you to Dance for a Cure for pediatric cancer at the 5th annual Hollywood Dance Marathon.
This high-energy dance party features supporters from throughout Los Angeles dancing with their friends to top entertainment – DJ’s, bands, musical performers and dance groups. The event also includes celebrities on the Red Carpet, a silent auction of one-of-a-kind items, and more. No dance skills required!
The 2016 Annual Hollywood Dance Marathon will be held in March. Proceeds benefit pediatric cancer programs at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA and the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, so we are helping kids and families coast to coast. Dancer registration starts in September. Go to our website for more information and to sign up for our newsletter – www.lightscameracure.com
BACKGROUND
Lights Camera Cure and the Hollywood Dance Marathon were started in 2011 by a group of alumni from Penn State University living in Los Angeles. The group was inspired by THON, the Penn State Student Dance Marathon held at the school’s campus each February to raise money to help kids with cancer. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raising over $114 million in its 40+-year history, including $13.3 million last year alone.
Keeping with THON’s spirit of FTK (For The Kids), the founders of Lights Camera Cure created a mini-version of THON with a Hollywood spin. The benefit brings together people from all over Los Angeles, particularly young adults in their 20’s and 30’s, giving them an opportunity to have fun and raise money for a great cause at the same time. In our first 4 years, we’ve donated nearly $300,000 to help kids with cancer, and we won’t stop dancing until there’s a cure.
THANK YOU from Lights Camera Cure
On behalf our all-volunteer team, I would like to say thanks to everyone at the Industry Dance Awards for including us in this great event and supporting our mission of FTK. Congratulations to all of the dancers involved and to all the dancers participating across the country. Keep dancing and keep giving of yourselves. You make the world a better place.
